These are some images from a recent commission, which I titled “Synthesis”. This 30 x 40 inch painting is on stretched canvas, and is varnished for a glossy, vibrant finish.
The client commissioned this painting for an office at a university, and requested that the work be centered around the school’s colors (blue and gold).
I added some depth to the gold sections by layering various shades of gold paint. I also used modeling paste to create some dramatic, three-dimensional textures that emphasize the darker/bolder colors in the piece.
I love working on these large-scale pieces. I only do them by commission because I just don’t have the space to store them after, so it’s always fun to have the opportunity to experiment with colors on a bigger surface. You can check out the rest of the large abstracts I’ve done over here.
